Traditional Chinese medical art (and science) can be traced back at least 2,500 years. The general theory of acupuncture is based on the Chinese philosophical concepts of Qi, Yin/Yang and Five Phases. Smooth movement of Qi (energy flow) through the body is essential for health. Disruptions of this flow are believed to be responsible for disease. Acupuncture may correct imbalances of flow at identifiable “Qi active” points using a variety of techniques.
